Role overview
Own the technical core of projects: analysis, member sizing, lateral systems, load paths, and construction-ready documentation. You’ll work closely with a Project Manager and get real responsibility quickly in a collaborative team.
Work model
Hybrid: Remote production and weekly field visits (observations/meetings as needed).
Target Workload: 10–25 hrs/week to start, with the option to scale up to 40 hrs/week for the right fit.
Compensation: 1099 hourly starting at $75/hr
What you’ll do
- Perform analysis and design for wood, steel, concrete, and masonry building systems.
- Develop gravity/lateral load paths, design narratives, and clear markups for plans/details.
- Produce high-quality calculations, technical memos, and permit-ready documentation.
- Sealing plans within competence; complex scopes reviewed internally.
- Execute QA/QC on drawings, notes, and details; coordinate with drafting/modeling support.
- Support CA: RFIs, submittals, site observations, and field issue resolution.
- Apply CBC/ASCE 7 seismic requirements and adapt designs to real site/constructability constraints.
Required qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering or related (ABET-accredited); MS preferred.
- 3–7 years relevant experience.
- California PE strongly preferred (strong EITs considered depending on depth).
- Proficiency with RISA, EnerCalc, Excel; working familiarity with ETABS/SAP2000 and AutoCAD/Revit/BIM.
- Strong communication and judgment; able to work independently with support/mentorship.
