Role Overview:
Support and lead mid-sized building-structure projects under the guidance of a Project Manager/Engineering Manager. This is a hands-on delivery role with growing ownership, which is ideal for a California-licensed professional who wants more leadership, client exposure, and project control.
Work model
Hybrid: Remote production and weekly field visits in the San Diego area.
Target Workload: 10–25 hrs/week to start, with the option to scale up to 40 hrs/week for the right fit.
Compensation: 1099 hourly starting at $100/hr
What you’ll do
- Drive day-to-day delivery: production tracking, coordination, schedule control, and QA/QC.
- Prepare and review structural calculations and plan markups for code-compliant, seismically sound designs.
- Sealing plans within competence; complex scopes reviewed internally.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and consultants; flag issues early and propose solutions.
- Assist with scopes, budgets, proposals, and change management; support invoicing and project documentation.
- Support CA services: RFIs, submittals, site observations, and field coordination.
- Help standardize internal workflows and mentor junior team members as you grow.
Required qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering or related (ABET-accredited); MS preferred.
- 4–6 years relevant experience in building structures design.
- California PE required; SE a plus.
- Solid seismic/code fundamentals (CBC, ASCE 7) and strong detailing judgment.
- Proficiency with RISA, EnerCalc, Excel; familiarity with AutoCAD/Revit/BIM.
- Strong organization, communication, and ownership mentality.
